"Shut up, Malfoy!" Potter roared at me at the top of his lungs. He actually looked severely angry. Maybe I'd gone too far this time, insulting his dead parents. Nah. I just put on a smirk and acted as if he didn't scare me, because he didn't. I was about to do the exact opposite of his wish, and antagonize him some more, when a cool, thick voice interrupted me.
"Potter! Malfoy! What do you think you're doing?" Professor Snape walked over, cornering us in the hall. There was no way out of this one, except maybe some smooth talk.
"Nothing Professor," I said as innocently as I could manage. I could tell he was not convinced.
"Draco, the day your statement about doing nothing, while an angry Potter fumes next to you, becomes true, is the day I cut my hair and join the Weird Sisters on tour. Now, what's going on?" Snape spat, obviously not in a good mood.
"Might I answer your question, Severus?" Professor Lupin sidled up next to Snape. I never liked that teacher; there was something weird about him. Granted, he wasn't as weird as Quirell had been, but still, he was weird, "It seems the two boys were merely having a slight altercation, but from the looks of it, it's all settled now." Lupin smiled.
Snape rolled his eyes. He knew he couldn't get away with punishing us for nothing with Lupin standing there, so he sneered and said in a low hiss, "You're lucky Potter. Not many of us can get off yelling at innocent kids and 'strutting' around the castle whenever we please. Well, except maybe your father."
"My dad didn't 'strut'." Potter was mad again. I could tell by the vein pulsing in his temple. Note to self: once Snape leaves, don't mention Potter's dad; I don't want to get punched in the face.
Snape left in a flourish of black robes, and winking at Potter, Lupin left too. Potter was still fuming and red in the face when he said, "My dad DIDN'T strut!" He whirled around at me as if to make sure I got the point.
I couldn't help it, I had to say it. The realization had hit me, and I had to say it, "My dad does." I smiled at the silly, but true thought.
Potter's anger absolved to confusion. Then, a smile cracked on both of our faces and we both burst into a loud fit of laughter. My sides were aching and Potter's face was red from laughter. And we stayed like for a few minutes, laughing at the mental image of Lucius Malfoy 'strutting', then we parted ways and pretending like it never happened.
A conversation my friend and I had. She said, "Harry's dad didn't strut." And I retorted with, "No, but Draco's dad does." And we laughed for a long time.
